As a Belgian intern at BUFF I am very proud of the Benelux. Proud of our countries, our languages, our chocolate, cheese and beer, but especially our films. BUFF screens up to 6 feature films and 3 short films that are made in Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg. Spreekt u Nederlands ? Probably not. But thanks to the subtitles, that`s not necessary. Buy some popcorn, pick a seat and enjoy the talent of the Benelux.
Tomorrow and Friday we screen North Sea Texas. The film tells the story about Pim and Gino, two friends living in a small village at the shore. As growing up they explore each other and their sexuality. They have a lot of fun, until Gino gets a girlfriend. Everything changes and Pim loses his faith in love. Dreams never come true. Or do they ?

After North Sea Texas you can visit the screening of The Giants, a film about two brothers who try to survive without mother. With a lot of creativity they try to gather some money to live from. This leads to a dramatic, but still humoristic story on screen.
The film won several prices for its beautiful photography, brilliant actors and gorgeous music from the singer-songwriter The Bony King of Nowhere.
If you have seen enough of Belgium, you can always take a look at the movies from The Netherlands. In the beginning of this week we screened, in the presence of the director Lourens Blok, Stay!. This film tells the story of Lieke and Millad, both eleven years old and full of adventure. When Millad is forced to go back to Iran, Lieke does everything she can to let her best friend stay.
Another cute Dutch film tells the story of Chubby Drums. Chubby is a bubbly and happy guy who moves to a new town with is parents. Everybody in Chubby`s family and previous village is on the larger side and it feels really weird when he arrives in this new villages: everybody is super thin ! When he falls in love with the thinnest of all the girls, he doesn`t really know how to win her heart. Should he try to fit in or just keep on being himself ?
Come to Filmstaden to watch this funny story, based on a book by C. J. Kieviet, about body image and ideals.
