The Region Skåne Short Film Award is handed out at BUFF every year and awards the filmmaker who made the best short film. The winning film should be original and of high quality.

Region Skåne’s Cultural Committee established the prize for best short for children and young people in 2006, in order to increase the status and importance of short films.

– Short films as a format have a great ability to tell stories in eyelevel and to reach and engage a young audience. Encountered with short films, children and young people can see a wider selection of short stories of high quality from various countries matching the target group. Region Skåne’s Cultural Committee raises the prize amount to 100 000 SEK to strengthen the short film as a format and to encourage more filmmakers to develop important stories about, with or for children and young people, says Maria Ward, Chairperson of Region Skåne’s Cultural Committee.
