Ester finds a dead bumblebee and has an idea. Together with her best friend, and her little brother Putte, she starts a funeral company. Now begins the important work of burying a shrew, Nuffy the hamster and a host of other dead animals, who might otherwise have been left lying above the ground. The children write poems, and shed tears – because death is such a sad thing.
