Among snow-covered mountains in Japan, a fisherman awakes in the middle of the night to go to work at the city market. His 6 year old son wakes up and has trouble going back to sleep. In the sleepy household, the son climbs out of bed and dresses to go to school. On the way there, he has trouble keeping himself awake, and when he finally arrives, he decides not to go in.
