Kayla is in her last year of junior high school, and most things are just embarrassing and annoying. She wonders how she should behave to fit in. The funniest film at this year’s BUFF captures the melancholy of teenage existence and that strange feeling of no longer being a child, but not yet an adult, accurately and with humour. Elsie Fisher is irresistable in her depiction of an awkward Kayla, and was nominated earlier this year for a Golden Globe for best leading role.
