A wonderful growing-up story about four boys in former Czechoslovakia, during the 1970s. We follow them from the age of 15 for three years. In their own way they revolt against the regime and the ideals of the adult world. On the day they receive their identity papers, they tear a sheet out in protest against Communism. One of the boys writes love poems to a girl which causes a great commotion as they are seen as offensive. ”Identity Card” is a real gem about growing up and taking responsibility for your actions but, above all, it is about freedom. The film’s length is more than justified. DL
